Who we are

Rebel Legion

The Rebel Legion is a Star Wars based costuming fan club. The Rebel Legion’s members create and wear costumes of the hero characters from the Star Wars saga, which includes but is not limited to the films, comics, books, games, and television shows based on the Star Wars saga

Although started in the United States, the Legion is now an international club that encompasses multiple nations worldwide and has become the premier Rebel costuming group in the Star Wars community. Since the Legion’s inception it has been a volunteer club of costume enthusiasts who can enjoy, express, and share their interest of costuming with others in the fan community.

Giving back to the community is one of the Rebel Legion's highest priorities. Members regularly participate in events to raise awareness of charitable causes, from walk-a-thons to blood drives. Because of this, the Rebel Legion proudly refers to themselves as "the good guys." For public and private gatherings, the Legion never charges a fee for an appearance, but they do welcome donations made to an event host's favorite charity in the name of the Legion or the local Legion unit. If an event host does not have a charity of choice, Legion members usually provide a suggestion, sometimes tied to a fundraising effort that is already underway. In cases where the event host is itself a charitable organization, a donation is usually not accepted by the Rebel Legion as they volunteer their time for that charitable organization.

What types of events do we do?

Hospital Visits

These are some of the most rewarding events that we do.  Brings smiles to the faces of kids (and kids-at-heart) is one of our main goals, but doing it for a kids who is sick or hurt makes it more special.  It's hard to get through a visit with dry eyes, but it can be very fulfilling.

Walks for Different Causes

We have helped at walks for groups raising money for research on Autism, Blindness, Apraxia, Congenital Heart Problems, Hydrocephalus, Alzheimer's, Lung Problems, Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Hemophilia, Mitochondrial Disease, and others.  We mainly act as entertainment for the walkers.

Fundraisers for Different Causes

Various organizations ask for our help to raise money for their causes.  We typically draw attention to the event to bring in more donors, and serve as entertainment for those who are at the event.

Library Programs

Libraries often have programs to promote literacy.  These programs help to introduce kids to the services that the libraries provide.

Parades

We have done community parades for WVU's Homecoming, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and St. Patrick's Day.

Comic Cons

Comic Cons are among the most fun events that we do, including meeting some celebrities.  We often do a fundraiser to benefit some chartable organization, such as WVU Children's Hospital, Make-A-Wish, or Toys-4-Tots.

Sporting Events

Whether it is baseball, hockey, soccer, or rugby, we go to all kinds of sporting events.  The games are at all levels: college, minor leagues, and professional.  The teams always have some fun for us.
